habitat for humanity

Many people suffer from homelessness all over the world. Ever since I was a young girl I contributed in the making of new houses for people in their time of need with the organization Habitat for Humanity. When I came to college I decided to continue my efforts and join the Habitat for Humanity on campus. Habitat for Humanity is a great cause, but it would not be possible without active volunteers. Volunteers are the root for this cause. We certainly have enough volunteers to have their houses worked on, but improvement is needed in the volunteers who help change someone's life. This can only happen if people come forward and volunteer their time to the needs of others. In order to make this happen I will begin by making pamplets and colorful fliers to grab attention. I will be targeting the college students of the University of Southern Indiana. In my brochures I will use personal expierences from people who have recieved the habitat for humanity help and of the volunteers who have volunteered their time in order to better the lives of others. I have also been thinking about making a short video to display in order to recruit more volunteers. In order to show others how important it is to volunteer and what it all entails I will be volunteering my own time. Along side others from the USI campus, I plan to help build and reconstruct for the sake of anothers well being. I then will participate in public sphere day(on the USI campus); displaying my pamphlets and fliers along with recruiting members for this wonderful cause. These are just a few things I will be doing to bring more volunteers in this great society.

In everyday life, many are faced with decisions on whether or not to stand up and state their opinion or just to sit back and let others take the lead. I have also been faced with many of these decisions. A major one that I have been a part of is a teachers rally in order to get the teachers a raise and to get them a contract. I have also been involved in conversations about political issues and have brought my point to the table. I am very opionated, therefor normally I have brought my opionions into many topics. I had the opportunity to sign a petition to let smokers go out during basketball games in high school but I did not sign it because I did not believe in it. I was very against it.

Blog analysis

In today’s society money is the source of everyone’s problems. Some have too much money they do not know what to do with, but more often than not many families do not have enough money to pay the bills or even support their children. People are willing to do anything to save money. As I was browsing the internet I ran across a blog titled “Eat less, Save Money”, written by Bryan White that relates to adults saving money.
White is middle-aged and from Australia but is using his experiences to relate to the average adult trying to save money. He shows his credibility by letting his readers know that he did not stick to being a vegan, but that he did try it for 3 months and he just liked meat too much. White’s blogs have a consistent theme of the frugal logic and saving people money. He uses his honest opinions to help others in their journey to a better way to save money.
He can appeal to young adults and the more mature older adults. His intended audience is those of everyday life that are looking to save money and “prevent cancer and heart disease” (White). Although this blog is aimed at adults this blog is available for all to see, analyze and put towards their life. Anyone can come across this blog by searching the internet for ways to save money. Although anyone can read this blog it is not meant for children and they will take nothing away from it. The blog is meant for people wanting to try new things and save money while doing it. This blog could also be directed towards people wanting to add years to their life and prevent diseases.
In order to make his audience believe that he is being truthful about this subject matter he uses real life experiences. White explains his journey with being a vegan and how it helped him but also how he did not like it and he felt unhealthy. “I felt pretty lethargic and lacked a lot of energy, perhaps it was due to a B12 or zinc deficiency” (White). Through his experience he learned how much money he could save and posted this information to give his audience more information if they were to try to become a vegan. He uses some humor to try and keep people’s attention and keep them returning to his blogs (he has posted many on frugal topics).
If you are in need of a lifestyle change and a chance to save some money subscribe to White’s blogs. He lays out exactly how much money he saved buying vegetables and not the other junk and also the healthy aspects of veganism. He portrays veganism as a great thing to do but just not what he was looking for and not right for him. You can kill two birds with one stone by being a vegan.
Recognizing the rhetorical triangle between the writer, the reader, and the message is the key in being able to understand and analyze blogs posted by everyday people.

Concerns about the world.

So many things around us are unexplainable and many of us would like answers to these events. Some things that happen in life boggle my mind and make me wonder how these things happen, these are just a few things that i am curious about:

1. How can mold take two people's lives that i care about?

2. If we are in a recession then how can we afford to five away millions of dollars by opening the right cases?

3. Poverty is increasing all around us and nothing is being done to stop it.

4. So many of us look to our new president to change everything that is wrong in our country, is that even possible?

5. Why does the cost of going to college keep rising and making it less affordable for students to attend?

6. Why does each generation keep getting worse and worse, in every aspect?

7. Watching the news is nothing but a horror flick.

8. People are finding more and more ways to cheat and get what they want, what about the people who do the right thing...what do they get in return?

9. It really bothers me that people do not use gloves at work ( I work in a restaraunt).

I wish i had the answers to many of these questions, I hate that i do not.

Public Spheres

Public Spheres are all around. They provide one with information about anything and everything and most of the time are very useful. If you take the time to look you will find them. These are some of the many that I found when walking around campus and the city.
